Welcome to Charles Read Academy
Charles Read Academy is situated in the village of Corby Glen in Lincolnshire. We offer a high quality education to students aged 11 - 16.
At Charles Read Academy we are committed to delivering the very best education for 11-16 year olds in our local area. Since joining the David Ross Education Trust we have worked hard to invest in the academy’s facilities, increase academic standards, and enrich the learning offer for our students.
As a small academy, we pride ourselves on helping students to achieve their academic potential, while developing their interests and talents in a caring and stimulating environment.
With the support of the Trust, we have recently installed a brand new 3G All-Weather Sports Pitch and opened fantastic new science laboratories, art rooms and a state of the art music suite, transforming the learning environment for our students.
In 2015/16 we had a fantastic set of GCSE results from our Y11 students. 55% of students achieved A*-C in both English and mathematics, this measure is known as ‘The Basics’. 66% of students achieved 5 A*-C grades and every student left with at least 1 qualification. I am particularly proud of our results in mathematics and science with nearly 75% of students achieving A*-C grades in these subjects.
There is a new fairer measure for assessing the progress students make during secondary education called Progress 8. It compares students' results in their best 8 subjects (it must include English, maths and 3 Ebacc subjects) with other students of the same ability. I am pleased to report that for the second consecutive year Charles Read students achieved a positive Progress 8 score. Provisionally estimated at 0.12 this shows that on average students made better than expected progress, regardless of their ability on entry to the academy.
Wherever students’ talents lie, we encourage them to aim high and we do everything we can to support them. This includes exclusive enrichment opportunities, scholarships and bursaries so that they can pursue their creative and sporting talents.
We are proud to be at the heart of our local community, and regularly work with primary schools in the local area, running programmes throughout the year to ease the transition to secondary school.
