Join us for our Open Evening

We are delighted to welcome you to our Open Evening on Wednesday 12th July from 6.00pm - 8.00pm.

Charles Read Academy is a 'GOOD' school, delivering a high quality education for 11-16 year olds in our local area.

Since joining the David Ross Education Trust we have worked hard to invest in the academy’s facilities, increase academic standards and enrich the learning offer for our students.

As a small academy, we pride ourselves on helping students to achieve their academic potential, while developing their interests and talents in a caring and stimulating environment.

With the support of the Trust, we have recently installed a new 3G All-Weather Sports Pitch and opened fantastic new science laboratories, art rooms and a state of the art music suite, transforming the learning environment for our students.

The atmosphere at the academy is friendly and welcoming and the students really enjoy studying here. This is supported by a house system that is at the centre of everything we do, creating strong bonds across the academy.

We offer wide-ranging enrichment opportunities and in the last year alone, our students have had the chance to visit top universities and businesses as well as meeting the Red Arrows, taking part in an ecological project in the Caribbean and competing in music competitions throughout the country.

Wherever students’ talents lie, we encourage them to aim high and we do everything we can to support them. This includes exclusive scholarships and bursaries so that they can pursue their creative and sporting talents.

Sports stars regularly run masterclasses for our students. They can also access national competitions, sports tours in Europe and funded trips to major tournaments. This year this has included meeting James Cracknell, Austin Healey, Beth Tweddle and Colin Jackson amongst others, and visiting Team GB at their kitting out event ahead of the Olympics in Rio.

We are proud to be at the heart of our local community, and regularly work with primary schools in the local area, running programmes throughout the year to ease the transition to secondary school.
