Nick Boles MP visits Grantham’s Charles Read Academy to help honour student

Students and staff at Corby Glen’s Charles Read Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were honoured to recently welcome RT Hon Nick Boles to the academy.

Mr Boles, who is the local MP for Grantham and Stamford, joined Year 11 students in an emotional display of unity as they planted a prunus tree in memory of Bailey Drew, a popular Year 7 student who sadly passed away in 2013.

Students were also joined by Bailey’s mother and younger brothers for the planting of the memorial tree, which was kindly donated to the school by Downtown Garden Centre in Grantham.

During his visit to the academy, Mr Boles also spoke with Year 7 and 8 students about daily life in the Houses of Parliament in Westminster and gave an insight into his role working in politics and with the local community.

Robert Sloan, Principal at Charles Read Academy, said: “We were delighted to welcome Nick Boles to our academy again.

“He is always very supportive of our school and we were honoured to have Nick join us for our tree planting in memory of Bailey, which will serve as a lasting memorial for years to come.”
