Library

Welcome to CRA Library

It has been a very exciting process for us all here at CRA, with the launch of our ‘Year of Reading’ and of course our new library. Students are presenting an increasing enthusiasm and a growing passion for our stock of new books, and not forgetting our new tablets which, are available to utilise for both quizzing and homework.

We are open daily from 8.45am until 4.00 pm for the students to come in and either read, complete homework or just have some quiet time at break, lunch or after school. We are here to help with anything they need, whether it be a book selection or homework, all they have to do is ask. There are always members of staff here to help.

If you have any further questions in relation to the library, please email: CRA-Library@charlesreadacademy.co.uk

Accelerated Reader™

In our Library, we use the Accelerated Reader programme for our KS3 students to help improve their literacy levels. It is already proving to be a powerful tool, not only for monitoring and managing the independent reading practice of our students but motivating their reading for pleasure.

Every student in Key Stage 3 has an independent reading level and target to achieve each term. They are given 20 minutes reading time every day and listen and follow as staff read classic novels to them twice a week in Tutor time. Additionally, they have a library lesson every two weeks to ensure that they have ample time to select appropriate books which support achieving their personal reading target.

Students are encouraged to choose and read books within their ZPD range from our library but are also welcome to read their own books from home, which of course they can quiz on.

Please feel free to visit www.arbookfind.co.uk to search the database to see if the book from home has a quiz and to check the range. The database has over 25,000 quizzes checking the student’s comprehension every time they quiz.

It also provides our professional staff, with instant feedback and reports for monitoring the success of each individual student. Please find "A Parents’ Guide to Accelerated Reader" below.
