Aqua Crowned Inaugural Sports Day Champions

On Friday 16th July over 150 students at Charles Read Academy represented their houses; Aqua, Caeli and Terra in the first ever Sports Day of the new look CRA House Championship. The weather was fantastic as the house teams went head to head in 10 events throughout the day, starting with field events in the morning session followed by Tug of War before lunch. Track events took place in the afternoon to bring an action packed day of sport to a close.

The atmosphere was electric as students arrived to school sporting their house colours, stepping off their buses with house coloured face paints and hair spray to really adding to the spectacle. Following registration students got the day underway with High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, Shot Put, Discus and 800m where Terra took an early lead heading into the Tug of War event. House teams made their way on to the 3G pitch to the sound of drums and loud chants as students and staff cheered their teams on throughout hugely competitive rounds of Tug of War. Each tutor group across the academy selected 8 students to take part in a battle of the tutor group round robin style competition before staff went head to head. Aqua came out on top of the Tug of War, securing a narrow lead going into the final events of the competition in the afternoon.

The track events began with a rapturous house parade where each house made their way to their house areas on the field, generating as much noise as possible to create an electric atmosphere between all three house teams. House teams were welcomed to the track by a student samba band and fanfares to officially launch the start of the afternoons races. The track races were tense as the leader board continued to change, race by race and it came down to the final race of the day to determine the winners.

In 3rd place with 765 points earned throughout the day was Caeli. It was a dramatic end to the day as 1st and 2nd place was separated by just 1 point and it was Aqua who just did enough to see off the challenge of Terra to be crowned Inaugural CRA Sports Day champions. Aqua accumulated 852 points to Terra’s 851 points – Fantastic effort, well done!
