House Championships - Bottle Rockets
Lift off for Aqua...
Aqua launched in to a 100 point lead over Terra and Caeli after being crowned champions of the House Bottle Rocket competition.
Another week, another exciting house competition. On Friday 8th November, Students and staff at Charles Read Academy teamed up to represent Aqua, Caeli and Terra in the latest House Competition, Bottle Rockets. Each house put their scientific skills to the test when working ou tt the most effective formula to fire their chosen rockets the furthest distance.
Each house were entitled to a maximum of 3 launches and were presented with a selection of bottles in a variety of sizes and shapes to choose from. Once the house teams had selected their bottle for each launch, they collaborated to work out the water needed and force required, from the air pump, to fire the most effective rocket over the longest distance.
Timing was everything. Due to constant changes in wind speed and direction throughout the competition timing of the launch was essential. Unfortunately Terra and Caeli fell victim to the wind after their final launches were blown off course, covering very little distance. In contrast, Aqua led by Mrs Laird and Mrs Coleman managed to direct their team of students to the perfect balance of water and applied
force. Rhys in year 7 and Mathew in year 9 had the pleasure off firing the winning rocket, which cut through the air and traveled into the distance, comfortably sealing the winning points for Aqua.
Aqua picked up 70 points, followed by Caeli in 2nd with 40 points and Terra in 3rd with 15 points. Well done to everyone who represented their house and Ms Burrell for delivering the competition.
