House Championships - MasterChef

On Thursday 13th February nine talented young chefs from Charles Read Academy represented their house team in the House MasterChef competition. The competition saw 3 student representatives each from Aqua, Caeli and Terra who came together to create a 3 course menu. Each team had 1 hour and 30 minutes to prepare and cook a starter, main course and dessert before presenting to a panel of judges which included the Principal, Governors and House Gamemaster. Students really showcased excellent teamwork and a wide range of culinary and creative skills as they successfully completed their menu’s before the challenging time limit.

Terra’s menu consisted of a Twice Baked Cheese Souffle made by Emily, ‘Next Level’ Spaghetti Bolognese by Isobel and a Stacked Strawberry Cheesecake by Daisy. Caeli’s Menu comprised of Spring Rolls with Sweet Chili Sauce by Kya, Sweet and Sour Chicken by Poppy followed by a Chocolate Cake with Fresh Strawberries and Cream by Sian. Finally, Aqua’s menu consisted of Asian Styled Prawns by Joe, Mongolian Beef by Sophie and a Lavender Mousse with Honeycomb and Blackberry Sauce by Sophie. The chefs were judged on a variety of areas including their general prepping and cooking skills, presentation of dish and serving table as well as the dishes overall taste before the panel of judges decided on the best starter, main, desert and overall menu.

Following a number of discussions the judges concluded that the overall winning menu and team were Terra followed by Aqua in 2nd and Caeli in 3rd place. A huge well done to the students who competed in this event, it was a fantastic display of talent with students creating excellent dishes.

Best Main – Sweet and Sour Chicken (Caeli)
Best Dessert -  Stacked Strawberry Cheesecake (Terra)
Best Overall Menu - Twice Baked Cheese Souffle, ‘Next Level’ Spaghetti Bolognese and Stacked Strawberry Cheesecake (Terra)

Another victory for terra secured 75 points for the overall total with Aqua picking up 50 points in 2nd and Caeli 25 Points
