House Championships - NTIWIC Music Quiz

On Friday 6th December, students and staff of Aqua, Caeli and Terra teamed up to represent their house in the NOW Music Quiz. Teams consisted of one member of staff and 5 students, one student from each year group, who had the opportunity to use Charles Read Academy’s brand new interactive quiz buzzers. Once again the competition attracted a full audience who created an excellent atmosphere as they sang along to songs and supported their respective house teams through 48 questions, across 8 categories that truly put their ‘kNOWledge’ to the test.

Each of the 8 categories consisted of 6 questions with a variety of multiple choice, buzz in or complete the lyrics questions. Categories included a whole team general knowledge round followed by individual Disney, Film and Musical, 70s and 80s, Top 100, Latest Hits and Christmas rounds before the teams came together again to play the final bonus round consisting of double points.

Aqua entered the competition on a roll, after victory in the indoor rowing event the week before and knew a win here would really extend their lead at the top. Despite Aquas confidence, Terra and Caeli rallied in the attempt to stop them in their tracks and only one question was the difference in 1st and 2nd place. With the leaderboard changing throughout, no one could predict who was going to come out on top in this competition and it was the bonus round which proved pivotal. Double points awarded for each correct answer saw Caeli take advantage of 3 questions which they hoped was enough to clinch first place. However, to Caelis frustration, Aqua also answered 3 correct questions in the bonus round which saw them claim victory by 10 points, winning by 1 single question.

Victory meant Aqua picked up another 125 points, Caeli in 2nd with 75 points and Terra picking up 50 points in 3rd. Well done to students and staff who played their part for their house.
