Charles Read Academy

We seek to broaden the horizons of each and everyone of our students encouraging academic excellence and transferable life skills enabling all to become effective members of our 21st century society.

Sport

Our academy has a range of facilities that gives each student the opportunity to take part in a host of sporting activities. We have a 3G pitch, tennis courts, netball courts, a gymnasium and ample field space for athletics, rounders and rugby. Football, Rugby, Rowing, Netball, Hockey, Athletics, Dance and Rounders, among others, are all part of the core sports that we provide within PE and Sport.

Sport is an integral part of our curriculum and we always promote a healthy and active lifestyle. We actively encourage all students to become involved in extracurricular clubs and competitions, so they can perform at a higher standard or just enjoy themselves. Students will have the opportunity to part in many sports events throughout the year such as the DRET Winter, Spring and Summer Cups.

The David Ross Education Trust takes pride in their involvement in sport at their academies. Their efforts to support and provide opportunity to all pupils on the sports field offer a step up for our students into the sporting world, and will allow the sport at Charles Read Academy to be enhanced.

Table Tennis Performance Centre

Charles Read Academy operates a Table Tennis Performance Centre (TTPC) which has been running since 2016. This enables talented and ambitious young players to combine their education, alongside accessing high quality training and sparring within school time (6 - 8 hours). The TTPC operates in partnership with Grantham College Table Tennis Academy which is the leading Table Tennis Academy in Great Britain (GB) and this partnership allows the opportunity for the players to access a further 14 hours of training throughout the week.

The Charles Read Academy TTPC is now recognised as part of the Table Tennis England pathway. Table Tennis England and GB coaches regularly attend to work with the players in their pathway.
